Earlier this week, Zoë Kravitz provided plenty of style inspiration while attending Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff’s wedding in New Jersey: The actor looked chic in a strapless black tube dress by The Row, complete with mules and a martini in hand. (Yes, you can wear black to a wedding.) And yesterday, the style star continued serving looks while out and about in New York City with a friend. Kravitz’s latest fashion proposal? She paired a classic pair of black gym shorts with an extra-fancy shoe.

Nailing a casual-cool New Yorker vibe, Kravitz’s outfit was simple enough—a white tee paired with high-cut, retro-style gym shorts. Instead of leaning into an athletic sneaker, however, she elevated the look with a pair of black Mary Jane flats, which instantly made it feel dressy. Her accessories also offered a pop of red, including her cheeky Sex and the City cap and a ginormous tote bag (she loves an XXL bag). Her outfit proved that, with the right finishing touches, even the most basic of pieces can instantly make a statement. Next time you’re hitting the gym, bring a fancy flat for a post-workout flex.
